I believe that art that makes you smile is good for your health
and that's why many hospitals are turning their walls into registered
gallery spaces. I am lucky that 70 of my original artworks over
the past 10 years found their home in hospitals, private practices,
medical centres, childrens hospitals and maternity units so over
the next few months I'd like to feature these public spaces where
Roocci art lives! Artworks are like special friends so it's nice
to see them find their homes in public spaces making both adults
and children smile.
This month
it's a Q & A with a fantastic rural medical centre in Picton
who aquired 3 Roocci paintings. I'm sure you'll agree the ones they
chose look really great!

1. What services do your facility
offer?
We are a busy family medical centre offering GP services with 7
doctors and a number of allied health services such as dentist,
pathology, psychology, dietitian.
2. Describe how the paintings you chose reflect the individual personality
of your facility?
We wanted artwork that was bright and bubbly to make our surgery
feel less 'clinical' and create a more relaxed waiting area. We
are located in a rural area therefore were seeking art that reflected
the Australian bush landscape and was complimentary and reflective
of our local environment. The paintings we chose are of cockatoos,
sheep and cows.
3. How do children engage in the artwork and how do you think the
artwork impacts a child's experience as patient?
Artwork can certainly brighten their mood and distract them from
their feelings of unwell or boredom if they are accompanying a parent.
We have observed children who are upset or unwell be distracted
by the paintings. eg. parents will say to child "how many cows
are in the picture" etc. It makes the waiting room less clinical
and therefore not as intimidating to young children. The artwork
really brightens the area and is a lovely addition to the practice
facilities. We can't imagine life without our little animal friends
gazing out at us.
Thankyou so much to Dr Anna Pham and the team
at Picton Family Medical Centre! I hope you and your patients love
your paintings for many years to come.

| Established in 1958, Inala, meaning
‘place of peace’ and is a not-for-profit organisation supporting individuals
with disabilities. It was a great day - a day of peace - at their
annual fundraiser. I had a great spot under a big tree and the little
animal paintings looked like they were climbing up the branches. It
was the best event I have done this year, with the students at Inala
providing the best entertainment ever with laughs and tears from everyone
who was there.I think that the event was just terrific with fantastic
weather and a great crowd. Sharni deserves a big thanks for organising
it so well and if I met you there thanks for dropping by. |

I stumbled
apon this marvelous piece of Australian history one afternoon. Amazingly,
this is where Elizabeth MacArthur first bred Merino sheep which
of course is very important in terms of Australian pastoral history.
It was simply magical to walk around the farm virtually untouched.
Later we donated our time and were privileged to
host a drawing session during a public open day. It was great to
think that for perhaps the first time in a very long time children
were drawing a part of our history on location. The Friends of Bella
Vista hosted a really great day. Angela, Gareth and myself had a
truly inspirational time.
Here is an interesting interview about the history
of the Bella Vista Farm:

Roocci created a painting
of Steve Waugh's locker for the charity event 'Forever Green' on February
17th at the Hordern Pavillion. The Charity is for children who have
a disease, an illness or an affliction that doesn’t meet the set criteria
of other charitable organisations. The painting was signed by Steve
Waugh and auctioned live at the foundation dinner for $6000 as part
of a very successful night for the charity. |

The exhibition at Sydney Children's Hospital
was fabulous. It was great to be there and great to hear the feedback
of how the artwork made people smile.
THANKYOU on behalf of myself and the hospital to those
who purchased my work. There are also the three works that are going
to be part of the permanent collection at the hospital, which means
more smiles! This exhibition holds a special place in my heart so
I hope the art continues to make you smile for many years ahead.
Here are some pictures of the actual exhibition night. |

my fancy and a little birdy mural poking out from the corner completed
the room. :) |

Northwest Private
Hospital Mural

In April I had the priviledge of painting
a mural for Brisbane's Northwest Private Hospital. Thanks to the
wonderful nursing staff who made my visit so enjoyable and to the
parents and family of the new bubbas being born during my stay -
I hope the new mural in Special Care makes a big difference to your
stay at the hospital and reflects the enormous love, care and skill
of the nursing staff. Click HERE

| Kildare Road Medical Centre welcomed
Roocci art into the Creche area of their brand new centre. Roocci
artwork decorates the lift and the top floor where the kids will have
brand new facilities. I really enjoyed doing the artwork this week!
With a holistic ethic to medical care, and fantastic state of the
art building I am excited to have been a part of it. |

Roocci was mentioned in the local
paper recently having completed the artwork for Westmead Private
Hospital's fabulous new extension. Yeay! |
We were featured in
a blog by Roxy
Creations - a wonderful 'find' that we got some incredible christmas
gifts from late last year. Sarah's blog is amazing and her beautiful
pieces are to DIE for.
Anyhoo, when we were at the markets together Sarah bought a painting
from me. It looks divine the way she has set it up at her house.Obviously
uber talented there also.
Was not expecting this! Nice :)! Roocci
art was at the PMA Exhibition at Darling Harbour and was featured
in a review by the Connected
Women Online Magazine. Their website
is here for great ideas for and by savvy women.

We
were mentioned in Kidspot again! Click here to read Sarah's

John Sands includes Roocci cards for Xmas 09, 10 and 11!
I have some nice news to share about Roocci - John Sands Cards
has chosen a few of my designs for this Christmas and next Christmas
as well. Interesting fact: the first Australian Christmas card was
produced in 1881 by John Sands so I am really proud to be part of
a continued tradition. Coming to a newsagent near you! |
