What is a Matboard?* Apart from looking great, a mat board is what separates the image from the glass. As glass heats and cools, moisture can build up. A mat - a piece of quality framing board - prevents the image from absorbing condensation that causes mold, helping to preserve the image. A matboard is also a classy way of presenting a print as a gift as it allows the receiver to choose a frame to match their decor. A mat gives structure to the image as a frame would, but without glass and its light weight allows the image to be set on an easle or even stuck on the wall by itself.
